Auguste and Louis Lumiere invented a camera that could record, develop and project films.Their Cinématographe introduced a crucial innovation: By projecting moving images onto a large screen, it created a new, shared experience of cinema. The Lumieres not only invented the very first night at the movies, they also pioneered the use of the movie poster.

The Lumiere Brothers started experimenting and finally developed a motion picture film camera which in combination with different parts also served as a film projector and printer in the 1890s. They called it ‘Cinematograph’. Their cinematograph was superior to Edisons Kinetoscope in almost all aspects, it allowed only one individual to view at a time.
The movie screening was on December 28, 1895, at the Grand Café in Paris. Their directorial debut was La sortie des ouvriers de l’usine Lumière (Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory), the black and white movie simply showed the worker leave the factory.
